Reading or watching Hope For the Flowers can be a family mood-lifter and inspiration during this time of pain and uncertainty. Hope’s caterpillar heroes, Stripe and Yellow made the bold, brave, painful and beautiful decision to change. So can we.
“How does one become a butterfly” Yellow asks pensively.
“You must want to fly so much That you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.”
I can't think of anything more transformational and radical than the change that happens when a lowly caterpillar worm dissolves within its chrysalis or cocoon to then emerge changed into a flying beautiful butterfly able to fulfill its purpose by carrying the love pollen from one flower to another and being fed from each receptive flower's nectar. What a wondrous exchange if we share! The story seems to reach every culture, and cut across all of our differences. I'm so grateful that over 3 million, for 50 years, have loved and shared the paper version.
May we humans embrace these current times as a hopeful time of growth. We need to reassemble a world, to make it truly a world of equality and of sharing. May life thrive “unto the seventh generation" as our wise indigenous ancestors understood is necessary.
